Accepted POA

Disclaimer

Accepted POA, a brand of Keystone Brands Holdings LLC, publishes general information, checklists and organizing tools for families who hold, or are planning, a power of attorney.

Not a law firm, not legal advice

We are not a law firm and are not lawyers. Nothing on this site or in our products is legal advice, and using them doesn't create an attorney-client relationship. We don't draft, prepare, fill in or review powers of attorney, and we don't recommend which type of power of attorney, which powers or which agent anyone should choose. Those decisions belong to the person granting the power and the attorney they work with.

What we do publish

Where we describe what a state's law says, we quote or summarize the official statute text, cite the section and link to the government source, with the date we checked it. Laws change, and how a law applies depends on the facts and the document. Treat our summaries as a starting point for questions to your own attorney, not as an answer for your situation.

Capacity questions

Whether a person can still understand and sign a legal document is a question for their doctor and an attorney. We don't assess capacity and nothing we publish should be read as doing so.

Banks and institutions

We can't promise that any bank, brokerage, agency or other institution will accept a particular power of attorney. Our tools help you prepare and keep records; the outcome depends on the document, the law and the institution.

If something is urgent

If you suspect a parent is being financially exploited, you can contact your county's Area Agency on Aging (adult protective services) or local police. If you need legal help and can't afford it, your county bar association's lawyer referral service or a legal aid office may be able to help.
